Japanese automotive juggernaut Toyota is making a dynamic comeback to India's sub-4-metre SUV arena with the imminent launch of the "Urban Cruiser Taisor." Anticipated to debut in the first quarter of 2024, this move strategically leverages Toyota's successful partnership with Maruti Suzuki.
Built upon the popular Maruti Fronx, the Taisor distinguishes itself with subtle cosmetic enhancements, including reprofiled bumpers, a distinctive headlamp and DRL combination, and unique alloy wheels. Inside, Toyota's signature upholstery and color options adorn the shared dashboard layout.
The Taisor boasts two engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated Dualjet unit and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged mill. Offering up to 99 bhp, the latter comes with a choice of 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic. A potential CNG variant, akin to its Maruti counterpart, is under consideration.
The feature-rich cabin incorporates a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a color MID, a heads-up display, and wireless charging. Safety features include up to six airbags, electronic stability program, hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, and more.
Toyota's re-entry into the sub-4-metre SUV segment, after discontinuing the Urban Cruiser over a year ago, aligns with the thriving market demand. The anticipated launch window in October-November 2024 positions the Taisor against stiff competition from established players, promising a stylish design, a feature-rich cabin, and diverse engine options that could ignite the market.
