Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is set to introduce the new generation Swift in the Indian market, with road testing currently underway. The 4th generation model, unveiled in Japan in late 2023, is anticipated to hit Indian roads by April-May, according to recent sightings during testing. Internally codenamed YED, production is slated to commence in February 2024 at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat.
The new-gen Swift, targeting a monthly production of 20,000 units, aims to continue the success of its predecessor, which consistently achieved around 18,000 units in monthly sales. With a 15mm increase in length and reductions of 40mm in width and 30mm in height, the upcoming model maintains a consistent wheelbase of 2,450mm.
Design enhancements include an updated front fascia, aggressive styling, LED headlamps, and L-shaped integrated LED DRLs. Technological upgrades encompass a new 9-inch free-standing infotainment system, an updated instrument console, automatic HVAC, and more. The hatchback will be powered by the new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, expected to feature a mild-hybrid system for enhanced fuel efficiency. The current Swift's 1.2-litre K12C dual jet dual VVT four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque, sets a benchmark for performance in the outgoing model.
