MYTH - Vegetarians and vegans cannot get all the essential nutrients from their diet.
FACT - It is possible to achieve all the nutrients from a vegetarian and vegan diet. Vegetarian and Vegan diets can provide all of the nutrients that a person needs, but a careful planning is required to ensure the same. People on these diets typically have higher intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fibre when compared with the traditional meat-eaters. However, some nutrients, such as protein, iron, calcium, zinc, vitamin B12 and vitamin D may sometimes be harder to obtain. With a proper planning and conscious inclusion of sources both vegans and vegetarians can achieve the desired nutritional goals.
