Let’s call it what it is. Journalistic ambuscade seeking to exploit a celebrity figure to advance a political agenda. South Carolina’s basketball head coach Dawn Stanley, riveted on her 3rd NCAA championship game after defeating Iowa, was the victim of a figurative drive by shooting when asked out of the blue whether transgender women should compete in women’s sports, an issue that has even confounded the Biden administration in enforcing Title IX of the Higher Education Act Amendments. The star coach, taken by surprise, paused and volunteered that women should compete in women’s sports. She was then hectored into suggesting women include transgender women. Viewers and readers. however, want to hear about coach Staley’s remarkable coaching record, winning 109 of her last 112 games played and her evaluation of Iowa’s Caitlyn Clark as a once in a lifetime generational player. She couldn’t care less about warring over transgender women and sports. Let celebrities alone to speak about what made them a celebrity and not connive to use them as a megaphone for a special interest group’s dogmas. Congratulations Gamecocks and Dawn for another remarkable championship 2023-24 season!
