₹ 2.30 crore for Chandigarh skaters - Will benefit from a cash incentive for their national medals as per the new sports policy
The introduction of cash incentives for medal winners in the new sports policy is expected to significantly impact Chandigarh's sports. Since the approval of this policy by the UT Administrator on August 29, there has been a remarkable surge in motivation among players. This was evident during the recently concluded 61st National Skating Championship, where Chandigarh's skaters dominated the overall medal tally.
The Roller Hockey and Inline Hockey teams from Chandigarh excelled in various age categories, securing an impressive 15 medals, including seven gold and four silver. Under the new policy, each member of a team sport will be equally awarded, akin to an individual medalist. The city skaters will get a total cash incentives of Rs 2.3 core.
For gold in senior national, a skater will get a cash incentive of Rs 3 lakh, while silver and bronze medalist will get ab incentive of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh, respectively.
In juniors' category, the cash incentives will 60 percent of the senior’s section, while the sub-juniors will get 40 percent.
In the Masters' section, gold in national championship will get a cash reward of Rs 75,000, while silver medalist will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 for bronze medal.
"Cash incentives are great motivation for the players. Earlier, Haryana used to dominate in roller hockey and inline hockey events, but with the announcement of cash awards in Chandigarh, the city skaters have completely dominated the national scene," says Harpreet Singh, Secretary of the Chandigarh Roller Skating Association.
With the accomplishments in the recently held national championship, Chandigarh's skaters are set to receive a collective cash incentive of Rs 2.30 crore, as outlined in the new sports policy.
"Like the Chandigarh Administration, we want more states and union territories to come forward and support the players. Rs 2.30 crore for the Chandigarh skaters is great motivation, and I hope in the future, the new policy will revolutionize sports in Chandigarh," said Naresh Sharma, Secretary of the Roller Skating Federation of India..
