Life in Afghanistan isn’t easy solely because of the security threats. Being a woman and wanting to work wasn’t an issue in Afghanistan anymore. 20 years of development and international support contributed to women empowerment to a large extent in Afghanistan. It changed the taboo associated with working women, my female cousins are teachers and doctors. One of our distant relatives who is a mother, a wife and a daughter in law is now a business woman.
People around me always told me I am going places and will be the voice of Afghan women but let me tell you I saw with my own eyes in Afghanistan.
Afghan women are one of the strongest women in the world (I don’t intend to disrespect any women outside Afghanistan). Despite security threats Afghan women face on a daily basis; they want to go out to make a difference, despite the limited resources ;they still want to learn and get the best out of it; despite a tight patriarchal setup, they aren’t giving up and making their presence felt.
Afghan women were flogged, lashed and whipped by the Taliban last time; they have seen all kinds of tortures and aren’t scared of any kind of bullets now.
I am literally none to give voice to Afghan women; they have their own loud voices which has recently shaken and paranoid the Taliban.
The good change in Afghanistan and the situation of women gave me hope and made me more confident on what I wanted to be. Of course there was a lot more to be done, a lot more to fight for but I still had hopes. I was willing to be in a situation of unrest with security threats because my whole life I was preparing for this, I was preparing to be a girl with skills and knowledge who would go back to Afghanistan and contribute to its development. I would spend hours thinking about this big step and....
