Manchester United are planning to break their transfer record to sign Joao Neves from Benfica, as per 90min. The 19-year-old has been on United's radar for some time, and they were impressed with his recent performance against Sporting CP in the Taca De Portugal Semi-final.
United are ready to spend over £85m on Neves and are also okay with surpassing the £89m they paid for Paul Pogba if needed. The Red Devils want to pair Neves with Bruno Fernandes in midfield, with Fernandes supporting the youngsters' potential.
Benfica may demand Neves' £102.9m release clause, but a permanent deal for loanee Alvaro Carreras could lower this. United are aiming to strengthen their midfield amid potential exits of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Neves made his debut for Benfica in the 2022/23 season and since then, the youngster has already made 67 appearances for the club. To add to his accomplishments with his club, the 19-year-old has also been handed the national cap five times and is expected to be in the Portuguese squad for the UEFA Euro 2024 championship.
Will Neves be a good fit at United? Let me know your thoughts...
