Have you ever fallen in love with someone who is way out of your league, way out of your reach? Or maybe they don't exist at all. It's a very common scenario, and Franz Kafka wrote about it. He has a great quote in which he says that the definition of love is something he places so far above him that it will always be out of reach. It's also why Kafka says love is like a knife, that he turns within himself, and that his body is a cage yearning for a bird. But, of course, this type of love is painful. Unrequited longing is not always the truth of love. The desire for an ideal other who will complete you, whereas love is looking for someone who will accept you, not someone who will complete you. So, don't let your love torment you instead. See, love has the power to break you free from your own prison.
