Former President Donald Trump made a statement recently that shocked the nation. Over the past two years, Trump has given mixed signals on whether he would support a nationwide abortion ban. He has generally dodged the question, only once stating he supported a 15 week ban, and always touting how he stacked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Just recently, that all changed when, in a public video statement, he said, “My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land — in this case, the law of the state.”
Trump now believes that the question of abortion rights should be left to the states. It’s shocking, but he had to take a stance on the issue. Banning abortion has proven to not be a popular stance, and he has an election to win. But now, if he wins, he won’t be able to run again. Could this be a political ploy? Does Trump really believe in leaving it to the states? What do you think?
