Chandigarh Press Club unveils inclusive reading room championing LGBTQIA+, Transgender, and Black Life Matters

In a progressive move towards fostering inclusivity and advocating for marginalized communities, the Chandigarh Press Club has unveiled a vibrant reading room adorned with empowering wall art. The initiative aims to sensitize users to the LGBTQIA+ and transgender communities, as well as amplify the significance of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The reading room serves as a sanctuary where the power of books is celebrated as the key to success. Adorning the walls are striking murals depicting the rainbow hues of the LGBTQIA+ symbol, the white, pink, and blue stripes symbolizing transgender pride, and the black and brown stripes representing the importance of Black Lives Matter. These powerful artworks were crafted by young individuals hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, utilizing art as a form of empowerment and expression.

The reading room-cum-Library is dedicated to the founder members of the club, who formed it in 1979, and the library section is named after a founder member late Shaukin Singh.

The inauguration of the reading room-cum-Library was a momentous occasion, graced by senior members of the Chandigarh Press Club. Their support underscores the club's commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and acceptance within its walls.

Through the power of art and literature, we strive to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and foster a culture of acceptance and understanding."said Umesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Chandigarh Press Club. 

This endeavor follows the club's earlier initiative to promote inclusivity through the installation of restroom facilities with messages of inclusivity on the outer walls of the restooms. Last year, separate restrooms were constructed for men, women, and gender-neutral individuals, and wheelchair accessibility.

The wall art despicts equality among women, gender equality, 

existence of differently-abled in the society, and a strong message that a city belongs to those who lives there, irrespective of region they belongs too. 

By championing inclusivity and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, the Chandigarh Press Club sets a commendable example for society at large.
