**World Wrestling Body Lifts Suspension on Wrestling Federation of India**
The United World Wrestling (UWW) has officially lifted the suspension on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) with immediate effect. The decision follows the provisional suspension imposed on August 23 last year due to the WFI's failure to conduct elections in a timely manner.
In a meeting held on February 9, the UWW Bureau reviewed the suspension and decided to revoke it under specific conditions. Notably, the WFI is required to organize new elections for its Athletes' Commission, allowing only active athletes or those retired for a maximum of four years to stand as candidates. The voting process, exclusive to athletes, must take place during trials or senior national championships, and the elections are expected to be completed by July 1, 2024.
This decision signifies that Indian wrestlers can once again compete under the national flag in UWW events, ending the period where they had to participate under a neutral flag. Additionally, UWW has emphasized the importance of non-discrimination, demanding written guarantees from WFI that all wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, will be considered for participation without bias in various events, including trials for the Olympic Games.
