Tamil Nadu with 39 Parliamentary constituencies, is often seen as a political powerhouse where two major political parties - All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) take turn ruling the state. Polling for the 39 Lok Sabha seats along with 18 Assembly seats were held on April 18 recording close to 72% voter turnout in the single phase election.
List of Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu: Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Nilgiris, Arani, Perambalur, Chennai Central, Pollachi, Chennai North, Ramanathapuram, Chennai South, Salem, Chidambaram (SC), Sivaganga, Coimbatore, Sriperumbudur, Cuddalore, Tenkasi (SC), Dharmapuri, Thanjavur, Dindigul, Theni, Erode, Thoothukkudi, Kallakurichi, Tiruchirappalli, Kancheepuram (SC), Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Tiruppur, Karur, Tiruvallur (SC), Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Vellore, Mayiladuthurai, Viluppuram (SC), Nagapattinam (SC), Virudhunagar and Namakkal. Of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies, among which seven are reserved for Scheduled Castes.
United Progressive Alliance won 37 seats out of 38 which consisted of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (23 seats), Indian National Congress (8 seats), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (2 seats), Communist Party of India (2 seats), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (1 seat), Indian Union Muslim League (1 seat) who all won seats in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The 2024 Indian general election in Tamil Nadu will be held on 19 April during the first phase to elect the 39 members of the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha.
