Let me admit from the word go, I don’t like Akshay Kumar movies, more so in recent times. Even if I have nothing to watch and movies like Suryavanshi , bell bottom and so many others are staring at me, I tend to give them a miss. But After reading a few reviews, the health reporter in me wanted to see Atrangi Re. A movie where Sara Ali Khan is paired in a weird way with Kumar (who is older than her father) that’s another point.
What is important here is Sara’s character is dealing with a mental health issue after seeing her parents being burnt alive as a child. She lives and believes illusions , talks to imaginary people in her life- well health reporting and life has taught me how this is possible.
I have seen a young boy in the family arrested after entering a brawl with a senior policeman’s son when he was in class nine. The boy was arrested lodged in a cell, given a few slap by subordinates who wanted to please their boss. He screamed in fear in that cell. When he was finally released a day after, the unsupportive family and the scar of that night left him damaged for ever. I as a child saw him muttering to himself , talk to non existent people.
He was given traditional medical treatment till decades later I found a good doctor for him and he has been doing well since.
Anyways Coming back to Atrangi re, I agree with the premise that the girl would be left damaged for life.
However what was bizarre was what followed .
She could have suffered from schizophrenia, post traumatic syndrome and may be any other illness which I won’t know as I haven’t read medicine.
She is started on treatment, many people would not like the fact that it happened without her consent. I won’t agree sometimes these patients, the intelligent types don’t accept anything is wrong with them so the treatment is without consent sometimes. Have seen another patient, who was given medicine with food .
