UEFA Meeting: Some Managers Want 26-Man Squad for Euro 2024!
Coaches at a pre-tournament meeting showed support for expanding squads to 26 players for Euro 2024, getting closer to approval. Originally, teams were preparing for 23-player squads due to pandemic impacts.
However some coaches wanted bigger squads in a the pre-tournament workshop in Dusseldorf. The proposal will now go to UEFA’s national team competitions committee on April 22 and then its Executive Committee as updated by Footmob.
UEFA Confirmed this in an official statement that read, "The positive discussions highlighted different points of view among coaches, with some expressing a desire to increase the squad size to 26, with more choice available, the threat of injuries and the intense physical demands placed upon players."
However, some managers prefer 23 players instwsd as confirmed in the statement by UEFA that read, “Others stated their preference to cap the squad size at 23, pointing out the difficulty in training with additional players, group management and the increased financial burdens placed upon national associations."
Should teams have 23 or 26 player squads based on these assessments? Let me know your thoughts...
