Whether you're dressing your child in the morning, driving together in the car, helping them with homework, or just hanging out at home, these little moments can have a big impact on your child's speech and language development. And you don't need any special training or expertise to take advantage of them! When it comes to speech and language, the world is your child's classroom.
Keep on talking to them - Show and explain different objects and things and use adjectives to describe them. For example... big brown teddy bear, small red ball etc.
Read books - Read and show colourful books with few large words. Read slowly and loudly Later... read with facial expressions.
Use appropriate words - Use real words instead of just babbling any random baby words. Use voice modulation as it can convey emotions and expressions. Sing songs as children love repetition of words, tunes and rhythms.
Listen - Make them feel heard. Child may use baby words or babble anything random with different tunes... encourage them. Listen calmly and let them express the way they want to. Don't interrupt them.
Mindful screen time - Screen time will not help in speech development until age appropriate content is shown on screen. Passive usage of screen should be avoided. Content which can help them learn new words can be shown.
