Sometimes I get triggered, and I can't help but burst into tears. Sometimes, when I'm overwhelmed, upset, anxious, or afraid, I just need to cry, and I almost always feel better once I let it out.
"Don't cry" is such a common response, and I believe most people mean no harm when they say it, but it can feel invalidating to hear when you want comfort and support.
