With the winter transfer window opening on the 1st of January, Manchester United will be among the many clubs looking to strengthen their squad. Having spent lavishly in the past few years, United have yet not found the perfect balance. The Red Devils are in desperate need of a central midfielder. The Manchester club lacks a midfielder capable of controlling games and bridging the gap between attack and defense.
United's first-choice midfield pair Fred and McTominay have faced criticism because of their lack of creativity and dynamism. Players like Matic and Van De Beek have not been used to their full strength. Van De Beek has been impressive in the matches he has featured in, but he is more of a bench warmer than a regular starter at United. The Reds are also on the verge of losing Pogba for a free next summer. The Frenchman is not willing to extend his present contract and has his heart set on a move away from Manchester.
Here is a list of three midfielders that Manchester United should consider buying in the winter transfer window.
3. Wilfred Ndidi.
Manchester United could take advantage of Leicester City's slump in the PL to sign Wilfred Ndidi. The Foxes are 9th in the Premier League table, and they are also out of the Europa League. The Nigerian is the best and most consistent ball winner in the league. The Leicester man will improve United's ability to win the ball back and sustain opposition attacks.
2 Franck Kessie
The United board will be aware of Franck Kessie. The AC Milan man was outstanding in the Europa League clash between the clubs last season. Kessie's performance that night showed the Reds what they were lacking in their midfield. With his contract expiring next summer, United should take advantage of the situation.
1 Amadou Haidara
Amadou Haidara has made it clear that he is open to joining Manchester United. The Malian international has played for Ragnick at Leipzig and would not need much time to settle in at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old is an all-around progressive midfielder and would complement Fred perfectly in the midfield.
