Boca Juniors right-back Weigandt is said to have agreed a four-year contract with the Herons and has paperwork ready to be signed. He is, however, being prevented from completing a switch from South to North America.
Boca had hoped to agree fresh terms with Weigandt, as he approaches free agency in the summer, but talks broke down once it emerged that Inter Miami were interested. The MLS outfit, who have parted company with USMNT star DeAndre Yedlin, want to get a deal done before their recruitment deadline on April 24.
Weigandt’s father has questioned why the Argentine outfit are making life difficult, posting on social media: “I don't understand how they don't let a player grow who would be free in two months. In other words, they prefer to lose money and say the easiest thing, always blaming the player who is a mercenary. Same as always.”
