It’s looking very gloomy for sides with that Benitez connection, as both Newcastle United and Everton lost another game of football in the Premier League. Both Newcastle United and Everton had won their previous fixtures. Newcastle had gone on to beat Burnley while Everton had found a way to beat Arsenal on Matchday 15, but the two teams were unable to extend their winning run beyond 1 game.
Everton manager, Rafael Benitez is under huge pressure as poor form continues. His history with Liverpool Football Club doesn’t help his case either. Everton lost the Liverpool derby 4-1 a fortnight ago and the last couple of days have seen Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands leave the football club. Reports suggest a power struggle existed between Benitez and Brands, and more departures are expected to happen at Everton as the club work to hold the slide. Everton were heavily beaten yet again as they lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace. Everton next travel to another one of Benitez’s former clubs, as Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Newcastle United’s takeover by Saudi Arabia backed PIF hasn’t provided any fruit on the pitch yet. Eddie Howe’s team continue to languish in 19th place, 3 points from safety. Newcastle United were thumped at the King Power Stadium, as Leicester City put 4 past the team from Tyneside. Adding to their woes is Newcastle’s daunting fixture list where they play Liverpool at Anfield, and host the two Manchester clubs at St. James Park before hosting former manager Rafael Benitez’s underperforming Everton.
It’s funny how that came along!
