Sports Authority of India Celebrates International Women’s Day
On March 8, 2024, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) marked International Women's Day with extensive celebrations across its regional centres and 23 National Centres of Excellence (NCoE). Women staff, coaches, and athletes participated in various activities managed exclusively by female personnel from different SAI centres.
The celebration commenced with Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary (Sports), MYAS, addressing a female audience through video conferencing. She also took part in an international webinar themed "Count her in: Invest in women, accelerate progress" in collaboration with SAI LNCPE, Trivandrum.
Sujata Chaturvedi emphasized the importance of women's safety, urging all centres to adopt a proactive approach. She called for regular self-defence workshops and mental health sessions, addressing the emotional and socio-economic challenges faced by women. Chaturvedi encouraged regional centres to invest in women, treating them with dignity and recognizing their essential role.
The day featured self-defence workshops, podcasts on mental health, and friendly matches in sports like volleyball, football, table tennis, carrom, kabaddi, and kho kho. Recreational games such as spoon race, musical chairs, blind hit, lagori, and tug of war added to the festive atmosphere. Women from various SAI centres actively participated, and winners received exciting prizes.
