Darkness causes your body to produce more melatonin (sleep hormone), which signals your body to sleep, whereas light causes your body to produce less melatonin, which signals your body to wake up. It may help you fall asleep faster & can have minor improvement on your sleep quality. Melatonin supplements are safe, non-toxic, and not addictive. Roughly 30 minutes before going to bed. The benefits of melatonin are not dose-dependent i.e. taking more will not help you fall asleep faster.
