After England’s announcement that their easing of lockdown restrictions will be delayed by a month, Nicola Sturgeon announced that Scotland will follow suit. The three-weeks-long delay will allow more time for people to be vaccinated—right as Scotland’s case numbers are rising.
Lockdown lifted at the end of April, but the influx of people into restaurants and shops has resulted in a spike in COVID infections. Tourist season is also upon us, with groups of them clogging up the streets and the tourist attractions.
The Fringe Festival is meant to go on in August, but one wonders how that will work with the rising cases and restrictions. Scotland’s goal is to have everyone vaccinated by September, which still leaves a certain percentage unvaccinated by the time the Fringe rolls around.
