Real Madrid's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has undergone surgery on his right knee for a meniscus tear on Wednesday. This is another setback for the 31-year-old Belgian, who had previously been out due to a left knee anterior cruciate ligament injury since last August.
Courtois had recently returned to first team training with hopes of rejoining the squad as they compete for the LaLiga title and in the Champions League under Carlo Ancelotti's leadership. However, this new injury raises questions about when he will be back on the field again.
It's uncertain how long Courtois will be sidelined this time due to his latest setback. However it is expected that he might only return in time for the UEFA Champions League semifinals, if Real Madrid are to beat Manchester City in the quarterfinals.
A statement put out by Real Madrid on this matter read, "Our player Thibaut Courtois underwent successful surgery today for a tear to the internal meniscus of his right knee, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Courtois will start his recovery program in the next few days.”
