Prisons for the longest time have been used to violate people's human rights. Prison abolition is a radical vision that envisions a future without cages, employing transformative justice ideas to build a society based on caring, mutual aid, and community accountability.
Since their inception, prisons have been used to control and confine individuals who are marginalised due to their class, colour, gender, or disability, as well as to insulate the most powerful from accountability while suppressing the rest of us.
Most of those who have caused serious harm are not in prison and will never be, then what's the point of prisons?
