Former Janata Dal (United) leader Pavan K Verma and two ex-Congress leaders Ashok Tanwar and Kirti Azad joined the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday.
The three joined in Delhi in presence of Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
"Today, former Congress MP Shri Ashok Tanwar joined the Trinamool Congress family.... As a prominent face in Haryana and an experienced politician, we are certain that together we shall ensure the welfare of all people," the Trinamool Congress tweeted on its handle.
Announcing Azad's joining, the Trinamool Congress tweeted: "Cricketer-turned-politician, Shri KirtiAzaad joined our Trinamool Congress family today, in the presence of our Chairperson and our National General Secretary. We welcome him warmly and look forward to working together in this new journey!"
Earlier in the day, Verma, once a close associate of Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar, too joined the Trinamool Congress.
"We are elated to welcome Shri Pavan K Varma into our Trinamool Congress family. His rich political experience will help us serve the people of India and take this nation forward to even better days," the party said on its Twitter handle.
Also, former Rajya Sabha member Javed Akhtar and former media advisor to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and veteran BJP leader LK Advani's close aide Sudheendra Kulkarni also met Banerjee in Delhi.
A few days ago, there was a strong buzz that BJP leader Varun Gandhi is likely to join the Trinamool Congress.
However, both sides have not said anything about it yet.
Banerjee was also expected to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday but there was no confirmation from either side.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that Gandhi is upset with Banerjee and was not keen on the meeting given that the Trinamool Congress is heavily poaching Congress leaders from across the country.
The Trinamool Congress is trying to expand its base outside West Bengal. It is contesting the upcoming assembly elections in Goa and Uttar Pradesh.
It has emerged as a serious contender to oust BJP in Tripura and has already occupied the space of the main opposition party there.
