Not only did the Indian cricket team defeat West Indies for the first time in 23 years of playing them, but they also won it on the West Indian island of Trinidad and Tobago.
It was also a debut of our own Sunil Gavaskar, who didn't too badly in the game and as well as in the rest of the series!
Though, the real star of the game was Dilip Sardesai. He scored the second hundred in succession on the tour after his match-saving double hundred at Jamaica in the first test.
There were signs of India's growing confidence in the first test. Thanks to Dilip Sardesai's 212 and a fighting fifty from Eknath Solkar, we recovered well after an early wobble. The trio of Prasanna-Bedi-Venkat had found their rhythm. We also enforced follow-on on the West Indies, which was a huge deal in itself.
We continued our good form to dismiss Gary Sobers' West Indies for 214 in the first inning at Port of Spain. In response, with the help of a good start from our openers, Sunny and Ashok Mankad, and Dilip Sardesai's hundred, India mounted a total of 352.
In the second inning, Roy Fredricks and Charlie Davies got our bowlers figured out, and the West Indies ended day 3 with 150/1.
But just when things weren't going our way, we got a lucky break.
Before the start of day 4, Fredricks' shot hit Davies' right eyebrow during the net practice. Davies had to be taken to a hospital. So, instead of Davies, Clive Lloyd started day 4 along with Fredricks.
However, Fredricks was run out without adding anything to his score on the earlier day. The next batsman, Gary Sobers, couldn't break his duck, and Lloyd was gone to a brilliant catch by captain Wadekar soon after. From 150-1, the West Indians collapsed to 261.
India needed just 124 to win. Sunil Gavaskar scored his second half-century of the game, and we completed the target before the end of the fourth day.
It was a huge win that instilled hope and belief in Indian cricket.
