In an exhibition match against Nick Kyrgios on Friday, Novak Djokovic received a kind and jubilant greeting upon his return to Melbourne. Everyone (including me) missed him dearly!
As we all know, prior to the Australian Open last year, Djokovic was deported due to a visa issue stemming from his reluctance to disclose whether he had had the COVID-19 vaccination.
US News reported that however, due to the Australian government's removal of vaccine regulations, the nine-time Australian Open winner is now eligible to compete again starting on Monday.
Djokovic said that he was unsure of how he would be treated in Melbourne a year after he was deported, despite receiving what he called a "great" response from fans during a tournament in Adelaide last week.
But to raucous applause, an emotional Djokovic entered a packed Rod Laver Arena.
