New Faces and Comebacks in India Women's Squad for Bangladesh Series
India Women's squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Bangladesh sees the inclusion of two debutants, S Sajana and S Asha, along with the return of Jemimah Rodrigues due to a back niggle. Additionally, batting allrounder D Hemalatha and left-arm spinning allrounder Radha Yadav make a comeback to the squad.
Rodrigues' absence from the squad is attributed to a back niggle for which she is currently undergoing treatment at the NCA in Bengaluru. However, the decision to rest her from the Bangladesh tour is precautionary, with the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind.
Hemalatha, who last featured in a T20I in September 2022, and Radha Yadav, making a comeback since last year's T20 World Cup, add experience to the squad. The selection aligns with captain Harmanpreet Kaur's commitment to providing opportunities to top performers ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year.
S Sajana impressed during Mumbai's campaign in the WPL, showcasing her big-hitting ability with a stunning last-ball six to win Mumbai the WPL opener against Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, S Asha's standout performance as the second-highest wicket-taker in the WPL earned her a maiden call-up to the national squad.
The squad, predominantly spin-heavy, reflects the expected playing conditions in Bangladesh, with slow turners likely. Deepti Sharma will lead the spin attack, supported by the likes of Radha Yadav, Asha, and others who have presented compelling cases with their performances.
The T20I series against Bangladesh is scheduled to begin on April 28, marking India's second tour to Bangladesh in the last eight months. India aims to replicate its success from the previous tour, where they won the T20I series 2-1 in a low-scoring contest.
The squad is geared up for a competitive series against Bangladesh, aiming to continue their winning momentum ahead of the T20 World Cup.
