Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai said that the youth must be encouraged to carry forward the rich traditions of the state.
He was speaking at the Parampara Utsav at Cumbarjua organised by Shantadurga Cultural Association Cumbarjua in collaboration with the Directorate of Art and Culture.
Acknowledging the efforts put in by senior committee member of the association, Mahendra Gaonkar, the MLA commended the efforts to run the organisation for the past 50 years.
“I thank the Shantadurga Cultural Association Cumbarjua for organising this event. The association has been running for nearly 50 years, which itself is a great achievement, and this tradition lives on. It gives a platform to the youth and puts the focus on Cumbarjua. Mahendra Gaonkar is working hard. He has taken the association to great heights across the country. Many will recall the event in Delhi organised by him on January 26,” said Faldessai.
“If the association ever needs my help, I will be there. I have never denied any request to hold any programme in the constituency. I always encourage the youth to go ahead and showcase their talent. I always ensure that I fulfil my commitments that I have given on time. Cumbarjua is known for its rich artistic talent, be it the Ganapati installations, sangodd festival, etc. The youth are displaying their talent. I have been seeing this for the past 30 years,” he added.
In his address, Cumbarjua Sarpanch Nandakumar Shet said, “We need to continue with our traditions. It takes a lot of effort to run such an organisation for nearly 50 years, and it has been organising so many programmes over the years. I also thank our MLA supporting such events and fulfilling many assurances like the long-pending road work in Cumbarjua. He is very proactive. If you have any suggestions for the development of the village, send it to the panchayat or the MLA,” he said.
Prashant Bhandari, who was also present, said that the association has always strived to give a platform for the youth, especially young kids as it overcomes stage fright, and this has to be commended.
