In Gujarat's Morbi, a bridge built in the British era collapsed Wednesday night, killing at least 130 people. According to officials, 177 individuals have so far been saved, and many more are still being sought after.

At 6.42 p.m. on Sunday, the suspension bridge, which was 300 kilometres from Ahmedabad, the state capital, collapsed as 500 people gathered there to perform Chhath puja rituals.

Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force, often known as NDRF, arrived on the scene shortly after the rescue operation was initiated. The army, navy, and air force were later also called into action.

According to officials, some 19 individuals have been hospitalised with critical injuries, and rescue efforts are being conducted on boats.

According to eyewitnesses, there were a number of women and children on the nearly 150-year-old bridge when the cables holding it up broke, sending a large number of people plummeting into the river below.

According to the Chief Minister's tweet, the state government has offered a compensation of 4 lakh for each family member of a person who perished in the accident and 50,000 for those who were injured. Additionally, when in Guharat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that each victim's family would receive an ex gratia payment of 2 lakh.
