Maybe it's not about the happy ending.
Maybe it's about the story.
Hear me out, I believe that happy endings are broadly overrated.
Let's consider a past relationship. We characterise it as a failed relationship, which means that we walk around feeling like failures, as if a relationship was just another task to complete and another box to check. And yet, the most important things in life don't last forever. Happiness is a fleeting emotion. That's something Lacan, the philosopher, once said.
Happiness isn't a goal to strive for. Happiness is realising that you are deserving of happiness. And being deserving of happiness essentially means that you no longer regard yourself as a failure, that you have found self-love and self-acceptance.
What matters is the process. What matters is the story. Not the ending that determines what something was.
Live it up. Live it now.
