There was something distinct about Homicide: New York true crime docuseries. The genre is much explored. We know the pattern in place. Watching its five episodes at a go, I felt like googling about the creator Dick Wolf. Not a small guy. Let me know if any of you have watched Law &Order.
NYPD is the keyword in Homicide: New York. This series has taken an empathetic and classy approach in describing the murders and perpetrators and their motives. The detectives in are retired and the interviews with them were so well taken, I got addicted to their charm. A very catchy prologue -In New York, homicide detectives are divided between north and south Manhattan- what we see is their tales.
Five infamous murders are illustrated in the series. I don’t want to be a heartless person picking the best murder from them. As the detectives say, at the end of the day, more than pride what moves them is they are getting appreciated for solving gruesome murders. Many innocent people fall victim to somebody’s urge or being present casually in unfortunate scenarios. The shooter of Jennifer Stahl had only one target but ended up with four present in her apartment above Carnegie Deli. In East Harlem Rapist, a young serial killer and rapist terrorize upper Manhattan for years. A cleaning worker at a high-rise was missing after her working hours leading to an inquiry very complex and intriguing. Millionaire Howard Pilmar’s murder inside his Midtown office was shocking. His 95-year-old father’s grief breaks our hearts similar to its haunting murder plot. Michael McMorrow’s homicide was so impulsive by two teenagers.
Irma Rivera, Scott Wagner, Bill McNeely, Rob Mooney..the detectives are very brainy and appealing in their narration. They know each other connecting various cases and police procedurals. Dealing with criminals of peculiar psyches, their approach is more humane. That maturity is evident in their personalities. I was wondering how many wings in NYPD should go hand in hand to solve a case. Commendable teamwork. Mindful research brings the families of all victims on camera. I found the shots very genuine but elaborate.
