After the new year break, the Serie A kicks off with midweek fixtures. Juventus met Napoli for the first match of the new year at Allianz Stadium, Torino. It was a clash between the two of the top five teams in the league.
Napoli had just one win in the last 5 Serie A games. They ended the year with a shocking defeat against Spezia. Juventus on the other side lost a league match way back in November against Atlanta. Since then they are unbeaten in all competitions. The score was level at the end of 90 minutes which gave both the teams, 1 point each.
Massimiliano Allegri went with a 4-3-3 formation with Szczesny on the goal and Rabiot on the attack along with Locatelli. The midfield had Bernardeschi, McKennis and one of the best players in Juventus, Federico Chiesa. On the Other hand, the visitors went with the formation of 4-2-3-1. Ospina was on the goal with Insigne, Mertens, and Zelinski on the attack.
In the first half, the visitors take the lead. Dries Mertens was on the scoresheet in the 23rd minute of the game. Napoli had possession of 56 % in the game . Juventus however had more shots in the games than Napoli.
Juventus had 22 shots from which 5 were on target. Napoli had just 16 shots and from those 16 shots, only 4 were on target.
In the second half Juventus level as Chiesa scores in the 54th minute. After the goal, no team was able to score. There were substations from both sides but no one was able to give the impact that the team needed. The match ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
With this result, Juventus are closing to the top 4 positions in the league. Napoli is slipping in the 3rd position. They need to turn the tables soon.
Both the teams will be looking for the first win in 2022 at the next league game on the weekend. Juventus faces Roma whereas Napoli faces Sampdoria on the weekend.
