Last week, BBC or the British Broadcasting Corporation released a documentary on the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. It's a two-part documentary called “The Modi Question.”
The documentary showcases about Narendra Modi his role as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and about the 2002 communal violence that shook the country, and also his relationship with country Muslim minority.
Within few days of release of the first part of the documentary which was not even released in India. It created choas in the country over the weekend of thec release, and India blocked the film and banned people from sharing clips on social media, citing emergency powers under its information technology laws.
The ban has drawn further attention to the documentary, with many people including politicians, protesting the move and providing links to download it.
Part 2 of the documentary was also released this Tuesday.
The West seems to be speaking about freedom of speech and expression, and condemns India's action of banning the documentary.
But the Indian government calls the film a "propaganda" and a reflection of "bias" and a "colonial mindset".
But do you think it's really a colonial minset of the British trying to showcase the rise of Prime Minister in a negative way or these are real facts which the government is trying to hide from the people of the country?
Though opposition leader Shashi Tharoor says,"In our democracy, all issues can be discussed. If the govt had asked for my advice, I would have told them to ignore it and that it be passed."
What do you think?
