I started playing football in 2005 when Assam had various games of football tournaments and it was quite a vibrant time unlike what the situation is now in Assam particularly, after the Premiere league in Assam.
Today Assam has thriving football players like Khirud Baruah and Bijoy Mushahary and some others, although I have my own favorites also.
I feel there are several factors why in my opinion football in Gwahati is not receiving the sane amount of respect and growth like it did before and what it should gradually. The status of football in Guwahati, Assam, has experienced a decline due to a combination of factors as i havd myself witnessed. Infrastructure challenges, inadequate facilities, and a lack of organized leagues have hindered the development of the sport in general. Additionally, socio-economic issues, such as limited resources for youth development programs, have impacted the nurturing of talent and the lack of funding has also affected the sports. Somewhere I think changing priorities and a shift towards other forms of entertainment also contribute to the waning popularity of football. This is not only my perspective, I believe like me there must be otger fellow people hailing from football background from Assam would think that to revitalize the status of football, there is a pressing need for investment in infrastructure, grassroots initiatives, and strategic planning to rekindle the passion for the sport in the community.
