Governor Katie Hobbs' veto of the Arizona Border Invasion Act is a tragic example of the prioritization of political correctness over the safety of our nation and its people. The Border Invasion Act, aimed at empowering local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants, was vetoed because it was, according to Hobbs, "anti-immigrant" and "likely unconstitutional.”
Let there be no doubt that illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. It fuels human smuggling, child sex trafficking, drug trafficking, and a slew of other criminal activities that devastate communities and tear families apart. Take the tragic murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley by a migrant who entered the country illegally for example. This is just one of many examples of the chaos unleashed when border security is compromised.
The federal government's failure to secure our borders has forced states like Arizona to take matters into their own hands. The Arizona Border Invasion Act was a response to this dereliction of duty, seeking to protect the citizens of Arizona in the absence of federal action. Governor Hobbs' veto is nothing more than an abdication of her responsibility to the people of Arizona.
