Good to challenge, but before that read the post carefully!
Rajnish Kumar, in my post ‘Is it a crime to be an Indian cricketer, who is a Muslim and lose to Pakistan?’ I have nowhere mentioned/stated that it is justified to abuse ‘any’ player.
The contention in the post is - Mohammed Shami was targeted because of his religion.
“But then why was he the only one who was targeted on social media, why were the abuses hurled on him?” – Excerpts from my initial post.
It has nothing to do with the performance. Shami was targeted because he is a Muslim.
Here the roll of statistics comes – The stats show that there were many in the squad whose performances were not up to the mark or poor against Pakistan in T20 World Cup match on Sunday. None of the Indian bowlers were able to take a wicket. Rohit was out on zero and KL Rahul got out on 3.
Had it been an emotional outburst related to a defeat in a cricket – the sport which is widely followed in India and also referred to a religion – match and that too to Pakistan, then the entire team or all those who didn’t perform well would be at the receiving end of the public ire.
Please read – ‘Even at the receiving end of public ire, being abusive is nowhere justified. The initial post & this one too, nowhere supports the abuse’.
The question in the initial post is - Why only Shami was targeted?
Answer – Because he is a Muslim.
And I stand by my post.
Whenever we mix sports with politics, religion/caste/colour we become intolerant and don’t bother about the ‘Spirit of Sports’.
Spirit of Sports - When it comes to Sports, it's not about your religion, caste or colour that matters, what matters is your passion for the sport.
