Spain versus England semi final certain
The FIFA World Cup 2022 has seen the first set of upsets take place on Thursday! Former World champions Germany and European heavyweights Belgium have both been sent packing in the group stage itself.
Belgium drew 0-0 in their do-or-die game against Croatia as they finished third in their group. The Red Devils had a total of 16 shots of which Romelu Lukaku had the majority in the dying minutes. However, Luka Modric's team managed to keep the clean sheet as the 2018 runner-ups have made their way to the knockout stage.
Germany went into their game against Costa Rica knowing that this was a must-win encounter. A see-saw battle saw the German side triumph 4-2 over their opponents however Spain's 2-1 loss to Japan sealed their fate. The Germans finished third with 4 points, equal to that of Spain. However, the Spanish National Team went through owing to their superior goal difference.
Mexico and Denmark had also been sent packing a day earlier hence shaping up the unpredictability of the World Cup.
With the last group stage games set to take place on Friday, the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup is almost set as we will see champions being crowned in two weeks' time!
