Good read.
Very nice 👌
Since 2017, Arsenal have failed to register a win when playing Everton away, a fixture that has always troubled them. However, that all changed after Trossard’s superb strike gave Arsenal a narrow 1-0 victory over an entirely defensive Everton side.
The game as a whole was not one that oozed quality, and it could be argued that Arsenal don’t look to be in the same gear they were last season, but they are consistently achieving results and the table is ultimately what matters. With 70% possession and 11 corners comparing to Everton’s 1, it can be said this game was dominated by a largely frustrated Arsenal side.
Some standout performers include Declan Rice, who once again, was a powerhouse in midfield. Just the presence of him alone entirely nullified an Everton midfield that dominated Arsenal the last time they played at Goodison Park. He achieved a 100% passing and long ball accuracy, with 97% passing accuracy. Press resistant and driven, he carried the ball forward several times just by twisting his body to shield the ball from any opposition pressure. Arsenal look less susceptible to counter attacks whenever he is on the pitch, a flawless signing for the Gunners who improves every single match.
Another player who stood out amongst the rest was Ben White, who has quietly been one of the most consistent players on the pitch for Arsenal this season. He completed 92 out of 107 attempted passes; he was heavily involved in both attack and defence, a consistent creator in this side. He registered 116 touches, which was the most on the pitch, and aided Saka and Ødegaard against a stubborn Everton defence.
Finally, the goal scorer himself, Leandro Trossard. Not initially selected, he was substituted on to replace the unfortunate Gabriel Martinelli early in the match and got the touch that sent the Gunners home celebrating. A sublime finish on his weaker foot left Pickford rooted to the spot, helplessly watching it fly in along with the crowd. With Martinelli out for a few matches at least, Trossard can get a consistent run of games and hopefully continue his stellar form.
