'European Super League' Loses Trademark, New Name Needed for Competition!
The European Super League's attempt to trademark its name has hit a roadblock. A22, the group behind the league, wanted to trademark 'The Super League', but a similar trademark, SUPERLIGA, owned by the Danish league, has caused complications.
European trademark authorities ruled that 'The Super League' is too similar to 'SUPERLIGA' and rejected the application. Negotiations between Super League and Superligaen failed, leading to the European authorities' decision in favor of the Danish league.
The Super League group can appeal the decision but might have to change the name to comply with EU laws. Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only clubs publicly supporting the Super League, which has faced strong criticism from fans worldwide.
The Danish League released a statement backing the decision. The statement read, "We are very happy that the EU's trademark authority has given us the right that the trademark 'THE SUPER LEAGUE' in the EU will violate the value that the Danish clubs have invested in 3F Superliga."
What would be a worthy alternate name for the European Super League? Let me know your thoughts...
