I am sure you love the game of UNO, it's super fun especially when you throw someone a draw four, but did you know it's been more than 50 years since the card game came into existence?
So, if you think you already know everything about the card game, these fun facts might just pull a reverse card on you!
1. It's older than you might think!
Uno was invented in 1971 by American barber Merle Robbins. That means it's more than fifty years old!
2. It's based on another game called Crazy Eights
Merle's family loved to play a card game called Crazy Eights, which has been around since the 1930s and uses a standard deck of cards. Merle got into a disagreement about the rules with his son. To avoid more arguments in the future, he created a variation on Crazy Eights with slightly different rules - and Uno was born!
3. You cannot officially Draw 2 on a Draw 2
Take note that you can only put down one card at a time; you cannot stack two or more cards together on the same turn. For example, you cannot put down a Draw Two on top of another Draw Two, or Wild Draw Four during the same turn.
Similarly for Draw 4 you cannot Draw 4.
4. Jump In
If a player has exactly the same card (both number and color) as the top card of the discard pile, they may play it immediately, even if it is not their turn. The game then continues as if that player had just taken their turn.
In case someone would use a "Jump In" on a stack then the entirety of the stack is nullified and the draw card that was currently played will then become the new stack.
5. 7-0
When someone plays a 7, that player must swap hands with another player. When anyone plays a 0, everyone rotates hands in the direction of play.
