DFC Ends I-League Campaign with Stunning 3-1 Win Over Champions Mohammedan Sporting Club infront of 40,000 home supporters
DFC ended their I-League 2023-24 season on a high note with a spectacular 3-1 victory over the Champions, Mohammedan Sporting, at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The match, which was played in front of a packed crowd, saw DFC deliver a stunning performance to silence the home fans and secure a memorable win. DFC ends their debut season with 35 points in their bag, and also with being 5 matches unbeaten and having 4 back to back wins to end the season.
The match started with a touching display of sportsmanship from DFC, as their players gave a guard of honour to the Champions while entering the pitch. However, once the game began, DFC showed their aggressiveness with Alisher opening the scoring at the 7th minute. The young sensation Goyary doubled the lead at the 31st minute with a clinical finish, putting DFC in a commanding position at half time.
It was 2-0 at half time and despite Mohammedan Sporting's efforts to mount a comeback, DFC continued to dominate and create numerous scoring opportunities. It was a wait of time as opportunities went begging, as Sergio Barboza, coming off the bench, sealed the victory for DFC with a goal once again assisted by Bhupinder Singh who had an outstanding match overall. Sergio Barboza also made a mark as he hence bagged his 13th goal of the season.
Mohammedan Sporting managed to pull one back, but it was too little too late as DFC emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. The win not only ended DFC's season on a high note but also showcased their potential and quality as a team.
Calvin Abhishek, who is playing his second match of the season had been phenomenal under the sticks and delivered a world class performance making some amazing saves against one of the best attacking sides in the league along with him, another notable performance from our rising star, Akash Tirkey who had been ruling the middle of the park and troubling the Champions to have a control over the midfield line.
