No matter how many times I try to set up my day for success – by the time afternoon comes over – I’m in a slump.
It’s 2 pm and I have no motivation to do anything. Sometimes the afternoon tends to slip away. And I know how badly we just want to hit the sack and take a nice long nap.
Which is why many countries have the siesta culture. I love that!
Alas, that’s not always an option. So how do we go around it ?
As a student I always have some heavy reading to do vs some light studying. I always plan for light work during the afternoon. Smaller, lighter tasks like revising a paper are set for the afternoon rather than picking a heavy task like starting a new chapter in my big bulky textbook.
Making my work plan as detailed as possible is another tactic I use.I’ve noticed that when I set my noon time to do task 1 , 2 and 3 .I never really get anything done. And that’s because there's a fault in the way I’m planning my afternoon.
Break down your noon into 30-minute increments and plan – in detail – what you want to accomplish in each segment. This really helps me stay on track.
Otherwise, I often end up scrolling through YouTube endlessly.
Change it up-I love this method because it refreshes my mind and puts me in a new mindset. During the afternoons sitting at the work desk seems difficult to do. So instead change it up. Pick a new spot in your house to sit during these afternoons. Somewhere with loads of fresh air. You could try the dining table , your living room or your balcony.
We can’t always beat the noon slump. But using different tactics should help you overcome it.
