Barcelona are reportedly reconsidering their plans to pursue Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi due to his substantial release clause according to 90min. De Zerbi, credited with guiding Brighton to their inaugural European qualification, is among the candidates on Barcelona's shortlist for their managerial position.
However, financial constraints may hinder a potential move, as the Italian manager is under contract until 2026, and Brighton insists on the full €15m to activate De Zerbi's release clause. The 44-year-old has a record of 35 wins, 17 draws, and 22 losses in 74 games managing Brighton.
As of now, Barcelona's current coach, Xavi, has downplayed the likelihood of extending his tenure beyond the 2023/24 season. Meanwhile, remarks from sporting director Deco appear to eliminate another favourite, Hansi Flick, the former Bayern Munich and Germany manager, from contention.
With a few other options available, it has to be seen whom Barcelona will recruit as their new manager before the start of the 2024/25 season.
