The 66th edition of the Annual Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, saw women dominating across most major categories.
While American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift's album 'Midnights' bagged the Grammy for Album of the Year, Miley Cyrus's 'Flower' was named Record of the Year.
Subsequently, Billie Eilish O'Connell and her brother Finneas O'Connell won the Song Of The Year Grammy for their track 'What Was I Made For?' from Greta Gerwig's fantasy comedy 'Barbie.' American singer-songwriter and musician Victoria Monét was named the Best New Artist at the ceremony.
American rapper and activist Killer Mike, who won three awards at the music industry's biggest ceremony, was reportedly taken away from the venue in handcuffs by police, news agency Reuters quoted witnesses as saying. The Los Angeles police, however, did not provide any statement on the matter, and two separate press officers on duty informed the agency that they had no information.
During the ceremony, Mike and his collaborators were awarded Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for their work on 'Scientists & Engineers'. He also earned the Grammy for Best Rap Album for his sixth studio album 'Michael' (2023).
Though Greta Gerwig's Barbie faced disappointments at the recently held Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Movie Awards, the fantasy comedy's music received recognition at the 66th Grammys. While the track 'What Was I Made For?' was named Song Of The Year, 'Barbie: The Album' won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media. 'What Was I Made For?' also secured the trophy for Best Song Written For Visual Media.
In another category, composer Ludwig Göransson earned the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media for his work on Oppenheimer.
Canadian singer Celine Dion, who had been out of the spotlight since being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disease, in 2022, surprised everyone by appearing at the 66th Grammys to announce and present the Album of the Year award.
