Directed by Amit Sharma, "Maidaan" is a period sports drama that delves into the glory days of Indian football during the 1950s and 60s under the guidance of coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn essays the role of the revered coach, with Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh also part of the ensemble cast. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Akash Chawla, the film promises to offer a compelling narrative intertwined with the rich history of Indian sports.
Amit Sharma, praising Ajay Devgn's commitment to the role, emphasized his dedication as a "director's actor," embodying the essence of coach Syed Abdul Rahim on set. Furthermore, addressing comparisons between "Maidaan" and the iconic film "Chak De India," Amit highlighted the distinction, noting that while both films evoke similar emotions of national pride and sporting glory, "Maidaan" is grounded in the true story of Rahim's remarkable journey, setting it apart from the fictional narrative of "Chak De India."
