Renowned actor-director Aamir Khan, known for his impactful films, is set to delve into the realm of Down Syndrome with his upcoming project, "Sitaare Zameen Par" (SZP). Following the success of his directorial debut, "Taare Zameen Par" (TZP), which tackled dyslexia, Khan aims to initiate a dialogue around another often stigmatized condition.
In "TZP," Khan portrayed a teacher aiding a dyslexic student, played by Darsheel Safary. This time, the focus shifts to Down Syndrome, with Khan keen on sensitively portraying the challenges faced by individuals affected by the condition. The film, scheduled for a Christmas release, is shrouded in secrecy regarding further details, including Khan's role as director or producer.
In an interview, Khan emphasized the thematic continuity between the two films, highlighting the shift from emotional resonance in "TZP" to a more light-hearted approach in "SZP." He revealed that while his character aided a special child in "TZP," in "SZP," he receives assistance from nine boys, each with their unique struggles.
Down Syndrome, characterized by developmental and intellectual delays, remains a focal point of societal understanding in "SZP." Khan's commitment to shedding light on this issue underscores his dedication to meaningful storytelling that inspires empathy and inclusivity.
