A Future China Strategy for India continues...
Chinese history shows that Chinese rulers have never respected
those who kow-towed before them. It is now perhaps time for India also
to ‘stand up’ and to deal with China in a friendly, fair, and cooperative
manner, but also to be firm where its own priority interests are
concerned. This will require a fair settlement of the boundary issue, and
the military strength to act in India’s priority areas, which should
include the Bay of Bengal and northern Indian Ocean. It will require a
change in attitude from the post-1962 ‘victim-syndrome’ which has
India behaving most of the time as ‘a nation of whiners’, and an end to
the era of ‘Lame-Duck Diplomacy’ vis-à-vis China.
