Myanmar in 2021 dealt with various issues including the influx of refugees, boundary clash between Assam and a massive spread of Covid 19
Multiple lockdowns were introduced in the state with over 1000 being reported day after day.
Mizoram Power Department officials were allegedly beaten up by people from the other state in the Zophai area in Kolasib district bordering Assam’s Hailakandi giving rise to the boundary issues between Assam.
Again in June, both sides alleged others for encroaching the land.
Mizoram also asserted that around 100 officials and policemen from Assam entered Aitlang Hear, a plantation area claimed by both states and seized it.
Perilous events happened on June 26 when the police from both sides clashed and 6 policemen were killed along with a civilian.
However, quickening tensions were, defused after a series of talks between the two states following the Centre’s intervention.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah agreed to maintain peace and resolve the dispute.
Still, the dispute over the boundary sharing a 164.6 km-long boundary between three Mizoram districts — Aizawl, Mamit and Kolasib — Assam’s Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts, remains unresolved.
Refugees from Myanmar were also given shelter by the state government, NGOs, churches.
A forest fire also devasted vast tracts of forest land, individual properties and farmlands.
To make things worse Mizoram was also hit by African Swine Fever (ASF), leading to the death of 29,821 pigs till December 24, and causing an onencial loss of crores of rupees to the farmers.
