As President Emmanuel Macron of France gets ready to be EU President, a rotating post, he expressed his priorities with a three word motto: recovery-power-belonging. He said in a press conference in Paris that France’s aim was to "to move towards a Europe that is powerful in the world, fully sovereign, free in its choices and in charge of its own destiny." https://www.france24.com/en/europe/20211209-live-emmanuel-macron-presents-france-s-priorities-for-europe
France is set to begin the rotating six-month presidency on January 1, 2022 at a crucial time when Belarus stands accused of creating a refugee crisis by bringing migrants from the Middle East and making an attempt to push them illegally into Poland and Lithuania—both EU states.
France's aim was "to move towards a Europe that is powerful in the world, free in its choices and in charge of its own destiny," he said in the press meet. He expressed his desire to rethink a budget in the EU and strongly criticized the post-Brexit British government.
"The problem with the British government is that it does not do what it says," Macron said, albeit swiftly adding how much he "loved Britain" and "its people." The relations between France and UK remains strained, especially after 27 migrants from the Middle East drowned while crossing the English Channel, trying to get into Britain. Both countries accused each other for the tragedy, as France argued that UK’s policies were to blame because Britain’s economic model encouraged illegal labor; Britain blamed France for promoting such a perilous journey of asylum seekers. https://www.dw.com/en/emmanuel-macron-slams-uk-government-as-he-sets-french-eu-presidency-agenda/a-60073593
The countries had also a row over the granting of British fishing licenses to French fishermen. "I have an overwhelming desire to have a [British] government that wants to work with us in good faith," Macron said. He also criticized the UK for playing a key role in arranging the sale of US submarines to Australia, disregarding the French-designed ones.
